What this room needs.
- Set out the qibla from a survey-grade bearing, not a phone compass; the rows, carpet and mihrab all follow it.
- Allow about 4 ft per row and about 2 ft per person along the row for full prostration.
- Column-free where possible: every column breaks a row.
- Even, quiet air distribution. Ducts and diffusers sized so the hall is quiet during the khutbah.
- Acoustics tuned for speech: absorptive ceiling and back wall, carpet, and a properly designed sound system.
- Chairs for elders at the sides and back, on the row lines, without blocking anyone.
